Art Workshop for children in 5th Ave Global Flagship Store

To kick off the Youth with Refugees Art Contest and in honor of World Refugee Day, UNIQLO in the U.S. partnered with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Artolution – a global non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen communities experiencing crisis through collaborative art-making – to host a special art workshop event in our 5th Avenue store in New York City.

Thirty-five children ages 8-14 attended the event for a morning of art making, connecting with their internal “artist” and communicating what “hope” means to them. UNIQLO had twenty volunteers helping the children while each child designed a unique piece of art glued into a large canvas for a communal collage.

Masahiko Nakasuji, Global Marketing Executive Officer commented: “It was wonderful to join UNIQLO team members at 5th Avenue for this special event. UNIQLO has supported refugees in many ways through the years. We hope our customers feel inspired to apply to the contest and join this movement, because even one drawing has the potential to help those in need.”

This workshop kick-off the global Youth With Refugees art contest, co-organized by UNIQLO with UNHCR. It aims to share with the world the talents of children and young people who represent the next generation, serving as a forum to share their thoughts and feelings in support of refugees through works of art.

Since 2006, Fast Retailing has worked with UNHCR to donate clothing to refugees and displaced people through RE.UNIQLO clothing donations. Fast Retailing and UNHCR entered into a global partnership in 2011 and are working together to better respond to global refugee needs through awareness-raising activities and promoting self-reliance.
