We apply the optimum form of UV Protection technology depending on the material and structure of each fabric. From women's, men's, kids' and babies' styles to accessories like hats and umbrellas, we offer a wide range of products featuring protection ratings from UPF15 to UPF50+. Even in pale spring and summer colours, these products provide effective sun protection, so you can wear them with confidence.

WHAT DOES UPF MEAN?

The UPF rating, a scale in increments of five from UPF25 to UPF50+, shows how long your skin is protected from damage by UVA and UVB rays, compared to not wearing anything.

Example: UPF40 means UV rays would take 40 times as long to have the same effect as on bare skin

Q1. CAN THIN AND PALE-COLOURED FABRICS STILL BE JUST AS EFFECTIVE?

Even summer styles in light colours can provide good UV protection. We've added UV Protection technology to all kinds of products, from stay-fresh AIRism styles perfect for hot summer days, to our handy pocketable outerwear. Our collection includes items with UPF ratings from 25 to 50+.

Q2. WILL THE UV PROTECTION EFFECT BE REDUCED WHEN THE PRODUCT IS WASHED?

We have verified that the effectiveness of UNIQLO UV Protection products does not decrease after 10 washes. For fabrics that absorb UV rays, the effect may gradually decrease after several years of repeated washing. For fabrics that reflect UV rays, the reflective material is blended into the fibres to physically reflect UV rays, so they do not lose their UV blocking effect. However, as the garment loses its shape with repeated washing and wear, the UV protection effect may be reduced due to thinning of the fibres.

Note: In preliminary testing by a third-party organisation, the UV protection effect has been confirmed to last after 10 washes. This does not mean it suddenly loses its effect after 10 washes, but how long it lasts will depend on the way the garment is worn and washed, so we cannot give a specific number of washes.
