One of the issues our original Very Short Socks encountered was that they slid off the heels too easily, despite the application of applying a few ergonomic silicone lines. By trial and error, we landed on a solution to cover the heel entirely with a polyolefin coating, which is thin but provides great traction. This is the reason our all-new Very Short Socks firmly grip the heels.

AUTO-LINKING MACHINE

Auto-linking production
technique relieves
stress on the toes

The previous model had toe seams. These seams may be hardly noticeable in thick fabric like pile, but can lead to discomfort on thin Very Short Socks. For 2019 Spring/Summer, UNIQLO alleviated this by introducing the auto-linking machine production method that leaves no toe seams.

MODERATE ELASTICITY

Not too tight

UNIQLO came up with a solution that strikes a perfect balance, which is to apply different knitting techniques on toes and heels. Knitting darts on toes and L-shapes on heels create the ideal fit that's not too tight, not too loose, easy to slip on, and is comfortable. These are the qualities called for in socks.

Anti-odor yarn
on the inside and outside

We use high-quality yarn with a smooth hand-feel on the outside for comfort and texture, and a polyurethane yarn with self-deodorizing feature on the inside for excellent stretch. This unique construction method is effective in suppressing the 3 types of odorous gas given off by feet (ammonia, isovaleric acid, acetic acid).

TESTING ABRASION STRENGTH USING
A MACHINE WITH SHARP STEEL BLADE

Now a long-lasting staple

Socks are items that are meant to wear and tear, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't last long. So UNIQLO updated the quality by verifying the abrasion strength using a special testing machine with steel blades in order to ensure that the product withstands abrasion to last long.
