I have the women version and I wished these were around when I was having my first period! They are so comfortable and not bulky. I highly recommend these to any parents of girls as an alterative to pads. Your child will be thankful. These panties would work well for younger menstrual as I remember mine being irregular, so it can prevent accidents when it suddenly comes.

Doctors talk about keeping your body happy

We talked to two doctors about female health.

Taking good care of your own mind and body gives you the power to choose health and happiness.
Dr. Sakiko Enmi
Knowing the rhythms of female hormones will help you stay positive in mind and body.
Dr. Miho Takao

The female body changes as you get older. You’ll have times when you feel great, and times when you don’t feel so good. Understanding your hormones and how your body works can help you feel good in your own skin.

Talking about sex links in with health and happiness. Knowing the facts gives young people the power to make their own choices.

It might be easier to talk about sex and the body as an extension of a normal conversation. For example, if the topic of dieting comes up, you can talk about how there are different ideas of beauty, or if you’re having a conversation about periods, talk about ways of dealing with them. It’s important to communicate the message that “Your body belongs to you. It’s up to you to decide what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with”. You have the right to make your own decisions about your body and your sexuality. Adults tend to worry and say things like “You must not do this”, but we should try to support young people to make their own decisions. (Dr. Enmi)

Keep an eye on the physical changes and talk about it in a positive way.

Choosing underwear together provides a good opportunity to talk about looking after her body. There are many options for girls’ underwear these days, including bra tops and period pants. Most girls will compare themselves to their friends and worry about the size of their breasts or when their periods will start. Explain to your daughter that everyone’s body changes differently during puberty. Take care not to talk about breasts and periods as something to hide or be embarrassed about. Daily communication is important. Try to build a relationship where your daughter can talk to you about anything that’s worrying her. (Dr. Enmi)

When making important plans, be aware of which days in your cycle you will be feeling good.

Stress is actually a factor that can make PMS and period pain symptoms worse. If you’re busy or under pressure at work around the time of your period, that will increase the physical and mental load. The first point is to understand your own menstrual cycle. Don’t overdo it on days when you know you’ll be feeling bad. That in itself will make you feel better. Periods are not an illness, but if you have severe cramps that stop you getting on with your life, you should talk to your doctor. Data shows that women who suffer severe menstrual pain have a 2.6 times greater risk of endometriosis in the future, so you should seek treatment, not just put up with it. (Dr. Takao)

You perform at your best when your body can move freely.

When choosing underwear, the most important thing is getting the right size. Wearing clothes that are too small makes it hard to move. In the same way, wearing badly-fitting underwear that’s too tight or too loose will reduce your performance. Choose a bra and briefs that fit your body and let you move freely. The key is whether they feel “comfortable”. Comfortable underwear also has a positive effect on the functioning of the automatic nervous system. (Dr. Takao)

This is a turning point in your life, so it’s OK to take it easy.

“Menopause” refers to the ten years before and after your periods stop, on average 45 to 55 years of age. Levels of female hormones drop particularly sharply in the two years around the age of 50. Around 60% of women experience symptoms like night sweats and hot flushes during this time. This is a transition phase for the female body, when your hormones turn a corner. Just as you would slow down when driving round a sharp corner, it’s important take it slowly. Slow down at work and in your other activities, and give your body a break. You’ll be able to get back up to speed once you’ve turned the corner. (Dr. Takao)
