Uniqlo U 100% Cotton Crew Neck T-Shirt
The concept for the men's version is "New Classic." We've used a tough-looking 100% cotton fabric, made with thick yarn, for a fit that's not too loose. The concept for women is "Special & Rich." We used cotton with an interlock weave to make a smooth and soft impression.

The difference is in the collar.
We all know it. The collar can make or break the impression a T-shirt makes.
For this T-shirt we employed the durable "binder neck" collar for both female and male ranges.
However, we differentiate in quality through the finer details, such as the construction of the collar, the number of sticthes and the type of sticthing.
All these come together to create a collar that places itself on your neck in just the right way.
It's these minute details that greatly influence your overall impression.
Our concept was perfection, and our eye for details helped us achieve this.


To make universal t-shirts for men.
Christophe Lemaire, Artistic Director of Uniqlo, shares his thoughts on the Uniqlo U Crew Neck T-shirt for men in his Paris studio. Mr. Lemaire's aesthetic is based on the idea of what a universal T-shirt should be, and incorporates a sophisticated aesthetic into something that is worn on a daily basis. The comfortable, good-looking fabrics have a smooth texture, and sophisticated colour variations, chosen through a process of verification with a focus on slightly dull colours ‐ he showed us that a lot of care is put into products that look simple at first glance.

T-shirts that fit women's bodies beautifully.

The interlock-knit jersey fabric has a clean, soft finish. He also tells us about the many tests he went through with the production factory to create this shape. You can see that the same crew-neck T-shirt is made with completely different attention to detail for men's and women's wear.

Dye it in this year's colour.
This T-shirt's colour lineup will give you an idea of the year's mood. That is no exaggeration as we are very particular about colour variation. After numerous checks, we complete about 15 sample colours, mostly muted ones. From these, we carefully select those that harmonise with the product. The result is a ten-colour palette. Moreover, to create a single colour, we test four prototypes with different nuances and select the one with the most beautiful tone. If we're not satisfied, we may go back and do more prototyping.
