The body and sleeves of ""3D knits"", without their parts being sewn together, don't have shoulder or side seams like regular knitwear. By creating a program that matches the characteristics and design of the thread, they create the ideal comfort and beauty. In other words, programmers are the artisans of modern knit production. By employing these staff in-house, we have been able to shorten the lead time for prototype production and have created an environment from the ground up that allows us to focus on manufacturing without compromise.
Data-driven, fully-automated 3D knit.
This may be the future of apparel manufacturing. Unlike the conventional method of separately producing parts like the torso and sleeves, these knits are made with the WHOLEGARMENT®* method to knit an entire garment on a single machine. The "3D knit" is completed almost automatically from thread to finished item, with a natural form that fits snugly to the body. This is where technology is advancing the manufacturing of clothing. UNIQLO owns one of the largest WHOLEGARMENT® factories in Tokyo Japan, and has factories with similar facilities overseas to mass-produce 3D knitwear.
